Hurricane Melissa Relief Effort

Fundraiser for my husband Michael James Hometown - “Haddo, Westmoreland “

Greetings! My name is Gracelyn Eulanda James, and I’m raising money for a cause that means a lot to me, which is my husband Michael James’ hometown.

Help Haddo Rise Again After Hurricane Melissa

My husband’s beloved community of Haddo, nestled in the hills of Westmoreland, Jamaica, has been devastated by the Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. This once-peaceful and faith-filled district—known for its unity, kindness, and pride—now faces immense destruction.

Nearly 75% of the homes lost their roofs, roads are blocked by fallen trees and debris, and many families have lost their personal belongings to the storm’s powerful winds and flooding. As of now, the entire community is without electricity, running water, or internet access.

Although there is no data presently available for the approx. number of residents living in Haddo, it is deeply rooted in history and community spirit. But few places represent that resilience better than Haddo.

A Faithful Community with a Historic Heart

Haddo has always stood strong through faith and fellowship. The Haddo Methodist Church in Haddo, founded in 1913, has long been a beacon of hope, worship, and togetherness. Generations have gathered there to celebrate milestones, mourn losses, and lift their voices in prayer.

Sadly, this historic church was partially demolished by Hurricane Melissa. Three other churches—the Baptist, Church of God, and Pentecostal Assembly—also lost their roofs, leaving their congregations without safe sanctuaries to worship or seek comfort.

Impact on Schools & Elders

Our neighboring Mannings High school in Sav-La-Mar, Westmoreland, was severely damaged. Its roof was torn away, classrooms flooded, and most furniture destroyed. Many of our elderly residents and shut-ins—those who have carried the community through decades—are now in need of urgent medical care, shelter, and necessities.
